Backyard Cinema x Gipsy Hill
News
Gipsy Hill
18 October 2019We’re huge film lovers here at Gipsy Hill, and when Backyard Cinema asked if we wanted to team up to bring craft beer to their new home in Wandsworth, we jumped at the opportunity.
We first worked with the guys at Backyard Cinema earlier this summer, brewing a delicious fruited sour for their LA Nights pop-up at Camden Roundhouse. We loved the resulting beer, and the experience of working with Dom, Charlotte and James, and when they approached us about helping to run a bar for their new permanent site in Wandsworth, we were only too happy to be on board.
The Capital Studios site really does have to be seen to be believed. A former television studio built in the ‘60s, the site has been transformed into a spellbinding wonderland, in keeping with the ‘The Winter Night Garden’ theme for this season. As well as a 250 seat cinematic experience, the venue also features street food, cocktails on tap, live music and more.
The bar is located in an atmospheric annex of the site, and doesn’t require a ticket to one of the Backyard Cinema shows to be able to visit. The outside courtyard area also features food vendors such as Honest Burgers and Mother Clucker, and Dappa Ice Cream. We’ll be pouring up to eight beers on tap (plus many more in cans) for at least the next 18 months, as well as running a series of events out of the site such as supper clubs, live music nights and pop-up art installations.
Backyard Cinema is one of the leading alternative cinema experiences out there, transporting customers to an immersive world in which to enjoy some of their favourite movies. The programme for the winter season – themed around “Christmas at The Snow Kingdom” – is a fantastic mix of new releases, sing-a-longs and old favourites, including Elf, Rocketman, The Holiday, Dirty Dancing, The Greatest Showman and Love Actually.
We’re going to be kick-starting our programme of events at the new site we’re inviting everyone to come party with us and try our full core range on November 8th. The Anex and Courtyard area of the site is open to everyone, so whether you choose to catch a movie before or just head down to check out the space and enjoy a few beers, you’ll be able to come find us there. We’ll also be hosting some free drop in tasting sessions lead by our brewers from 7pm. Stay tuned for further updates on our social media channels in the coming days.
We’re so excited to be working with Backyard Cinema, and can’t wait to kick back and watch a movie over a couple of cans over the next few months!
Backyard Cinema is open for bookings now, and is located at Capital Studios, 13 Wandsworth Plain, London. SW18 1ET.
