Brewhouse – What is our kit?


At Gipsy hill we’ve got a 15BBL brewhouse, UK made in Burton. Four fermenters, one conditioning tank. It’s great, off the shelf kit that we’ve been painstakingly customising and learning from over the past 9 months to ensure that we’re using it in the best way to get the most from it. The most flavour, the most aroma, the most body. We’ve kept our approach to brewing as simple as possible – to make no nonsense, medium strength, full flavoured beer. The kit we have now allows us to do that (actually, I’ve got another bit of kit on order that’s really going to help, it’s arriving in a month and we can’t wait to start brewing with it!). Getting to the milestone of being happy with our production process means that we can start experimenting more with the beers that we’re making and trialling! Watch this space…

At the moment we’re doing keg, cask and bottled beer straight from our brewery. We bottle, we keg, and we cask on site. This isn’t easy and probably restricts the range of beers that we could make. Likewise casking takes up a lot of space and capacity, and a lot of our micro-brewhouse brethren are not doing it as a result. We love real ale, and think it makes up such an important part of our nation’s pub scene that we want to continue to focus on it. We’ll continue to produce cask ale over the coming years alongside our kegs and bottles.
